Additional 15 trillion cubic feet of gas were discovered in Jafurah field by Saudi Arabia.

Significantly, the recent discovery of gigantic natural gas reserves at the Saudi Arabian’s field (Jafurah) has been a big boost for their energy sector and further cements the country’s position as a major global energy player.

With some 15 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and approximately two billion barrels of condensate discovered, Jafurah’s total estimated resources now stand at an incredible 229 trillion cubic feet or gas and 75 billion barrels of condensate (Saudi Aramco par. 2). This field is important; it provides a platform that can bring long-term economic growth.

Jafurah is an unconventional gasfield located southeast of the famous Ghawar oilfield, which requires specialized methods for extraction. Nevertheless, Saudi Arabia will overcome such difficulties in developing Jafurah field (Bloomberg News par.13). In this regard, Aramco started awarding contracts worth $10bn in 2021 with expected total spending of $68bn over the first ten years of its development.

Jafurah, which is 17,000 square kilometers wide, is a possible major gas and other priceless resources producer for lots of industries. In fact, by 2025 it is anticipated that production will be at about 200 million cubic feet per day; however, this should increase to almost two billion by 2030.

This mega project makes Saudi Arabia one of the topmost natural gas producers in the world. This highlights the extent to which Aramco’s undertaking is huge and its future growth potential because it has put $100 billion into Jafura thus far. Besides, Saudi Arabian economy will obtain over 200,000 jobs both directly and indirectly as predicted from the project thus having great impacts on the country’s economy and employment levels.

The development of the Jafurah field represents a turning point in Saudi Arabia’s energy industry. The reserve comes with sufficient reserves of natural gas coupled with ambitious development plans implying that this venture could result in increased economic productivity across various sectors while also raising employment levels within Saudis.
